What is MESCBN?

The industry analyst Gartner coined the term MESCBN and defines it as “a community of trading partners — of any tier and type within a network — that needs to coordinate and execute supply chain processes across multiple enterprises.” (Magic Quadrant for Multienterprise Supply Chain Business Networks, Gartner). The key is that the community of companies carry out business processes that extend across multiple parties or enterprises, which includes most supply chain business processes. According to the report, “Multienterprise supply chain business networks (MESCBNs) are an essential technology component to a successful high-maturity, digital transformation. Executives must understand that their company needs to operate within such networks to stay competitive — in other words, minimize risk, increase efficiency, reduce cost and capitalize on opportunities.”

One Network Enterprises is a Leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Multienterprise Supply Chain Business Networks. Founded in 2003, One Network was one of the first companies to provide a platform to enable MESCBN, or multi-party business networks.  The analyst community was slow to acknowledge frameworks that supported the multienterprise business model, and it was only in 2018 that Gartner introduced their inaugural Magic Quadrant (MQ) for Multienterprise Supply Chain Business Networks, where One Network Enterprises was first named a Leader. One Network was again featured as a Leader in the following report, published in 2020. The report highlights the fact that One Network spans processes across supply chain planning (demand, supply and respond) and supply chain execution (procurement, manufacturing, fulfillment and transportation) with a single transaction backbone and master data management system – and that One Network’s ability to offer this supply chain convergence is leading among providers.
