Erik ten Hag has spoken to club media, after holding his press conference at Carrington, to preview Manchester United's Premier League game with Chelsea on Wednesday.

The boss takes his side into the game looking to bounce back from the defeat at Newcastle United last weekend, and is assessing his options for the 20:15 GMT kick-off at Old Trafford, stressing he has some choices to make in terms of his XI.

The Reds have had to deal with a number of absentees for much of the season to date, with Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro still facing more time out of action.

The manager was asked about the players seemingly closer to a comeback - Jonny Evans, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen and Amad - by MUTV's Mark Sullivan.

"There are some positives," he revealed. "But not back already in the squad."

When asked if it would be the same group as on duty in the north east, Ten Hag replied: "More or less, yeah."

Erik has also suggested recently he needs to be mindful of individual players' workload due to the hectic schedule, such as Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo, after their return from injury. When mooted that this may play a bigger part in his thinking during this busy month, he said: "Yeah, but I think we can pick the team, so we have a choice.

"So [it's] a selection and players have to prove themselves all the time. It’s not that we are without players. I think, every time, we can put out a strong selection.”

CHELSEA'S TEAM NEWS

Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino will be without suspended midfielder Conor Gallagher but Marc Cucurella and Reece James return from bans.

Exciting forward Christopher Nkunku is still unavailable after a long lay-off and Romeo Lavia, the summer recruit from Southampton, will also not make the matchday squad, although both are close to featuring.

"Nkunku will not be involved tomorrow," confirmed Pochettino. "We have to be careful but I hope he will be back with us soon. But not tomorrow. Romeo is doing well but will not be involved."

There has also been a fresh fitness issue to deal with as Noni Madueke is absent and starting a rehabilitation process. while Lesley Ugochukwu has also picked up a knock.

However, the visitors' injury problems mainly lie in defence, with Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell all sidelined.
